Gadamis 005 - Lunar Meteorite (Ferroan Anorthosite, Cataclastic) (1.8 grams)

A genuine piece of the Moon. Gadamis 005 was recovered from the Ghadamès region of Nalut District, Libya — the same strewn field that produced the Gadamis 002–004 lunar meteorites, all found together and purchased by collector Mark Lyon in 2022.

Classified as a lunar ferroan anorthosite, cataclastic, this material is compositionally and texturally similar to samples the Apollo 16 astronauts brought back from the Moon's ancient highlands crust — some of the oldest rock in the inner solar system. The cataclastic texture records repeated impact shock: the anorthosite has been brecciated and partially annealed over billions of years of bombardment on the lunar surface, before a final impact ejected this fragment on its journey to Earth.

Lunar meteorites are among the rarest materials available to collectors — fewer than 700 are known worldwide, and this piece carries the added distinction of near-identical mineralogy to an actual Apollo return sample, without the impossibility of ever owning one of those.
