Few localities in the world carry the historical and scientific weight of the Eldorado Mine at Port Radium on the eastern shore of Great Bear Lake. Once the most significant radium and uranium producing operation in North America, Port Radium supplied ore that shaped the early atomic age — and specimens from this remote subarctic site are now genuinely scarce in the collector market.

This is a large, rich pitchblende specimen with a substantial matrix presence and the characteristic botryoidal, submetallic to resinous black masses that define classic Eldorado material. Activity levels are elevated and commensurate with the high uranium content you would expect from primary pitchblende of this quality — this is an active specimen and should be stored accordingly. A serious addition to any radioactive mineral or historical uranium collection, and increasingly difficult to source.
