An exceptionally rare and historically documented specimen — a cut drill core section displaying Uraninite in association with Pyrite, recovered from the Hack Canyon #2 Mine in the Colorado Plateau uranium mining district of Mohave County, Arizona.
Drill core specimens of this type represent a direct in-situ sample of the uranium ore body as it existed underground, preserving the original stratigraphic and mineralogical context of the deposit. This is an inherently unusual form for collector specimens — the vast majority of Hack Canyon material in collections consists of hand samples and matrix pieces. A cut and polished core section of this quality is genuinely uncommon.
This specimen is featured on Mindat.org for both the locality and the species, establishing independent documentation of its provenance. The Hack Canyon mines were significant producers during the post-war Colorado Plateau uranium rush and represent an important chapter in American mining and nuclear history.
Uraninite is a radioactive mineral. Suitable for advanced collectors and researchers with appropriate handling and storage knowledge. This specimen comes protected in a membrane specimen case.
