A small yet vibrant specimen of Metatorbernite from the renowned Musonoi Mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one of the world’s premier localities for secondary uranium minerals. The specimen features deep emerald-green, micaceous crystals with a distinctive tabular habit, forming a fine, sparkling crust across the matrix. The crystals exhibit excellent colour saturation and reflectivity, showing the textbook qualities that make Musonoi material so sought-after.
Metatorbernite, a secondary copper-uranium phosphate, is prized for its brilliant green hue and perfect square-tabular crystal form. This piece displays both with clarity and sharpness, demonstrating the characteristic transformation from the hydrated Torbernite phase through gentle dehydration over time. The stability and intact nature of this specimen make it especially desirable for long-term curation and display.
Musonoi material of this quality has become scarce on the market, as access to this historic Congolese mine is limited. This fine miniature exemplifies the best attributes of the species — rich colour, defined crystal geometry, and excellent preservation — and would be an ideal addition to any focused uranium secondary mineral suite.
