This specimen features Uraninite with partially developed cubic crystal faces nestled in matrix from the Eagle’s Nest occurrence, near Bancroft, Ontario—a classic Canadian uranium locality known for producing fine radioactive mineral specimens. The uraninite presents as dense, black crystalline masses with distinct but incomplete cubic geometry, partially embedded in a micrcoline to pegmatitic host rock. The crystal surfaces display a submetallic to matte luster, contrasting sharply against the lighter-colored matrix, which provides excellent visual context for the mineral’s natural formation environment.
Specimens from the Eagle’s Nest are increasingly scarce, and this piece is a fine representative of primary uranium oxide mineralization from Ontario’s famed uranium belt. The partial crystal faces hint at the mineral’s isometric system while still being rugged and natural in appearance. Mild secondary alteration may be present, common for material from this occurrence. Naturally radioactive, this specimen is both a collector’s piece and a reminder of the rich geological and mining history of the Bancroft region.
